About Community Connections

“Building a comprehensive continuum of services for
Bainbridge Island residents.”

It began in 1999, when the Health, Housing, and Human Services Council of Bainbridge Island received a major grant from the Glaser Foundation with a simple goal: figure out a way for the major human service providers to work together on the many challenges facing our community.

The project was originally designed to coordinate and enhance services for youth (ages 0 to 18) in our community. Thus, Community Connections for Youth (CCFY) was developed. Today, the scope of the project has been broadened to include agencies that provide services to Bainbridge Islanders of all ages, and the name of the project is now called Community Connections.

The creation of the Community Connections project is part of a broader HHHS effort to maintain a healthy community. The project includes:

  • Development of a multiple agency Human Services Database project, which makes it possible to track service delivery trends across the agencies.

  • Facilitation of the Director Forum, bringing human service agency directors and partnering organizations together on a monthly basis. The Directors Forum provides a platform for cross-agency discussion and the development of collaborative projects.

  • Sponsorship of cross agency training, such as professional training for staff, volunteer training, and training for the human service board members through our annual Board Forum event. By combining training opportunities, training becomes more economical and has a broader reach.

  • Development of public education materials such as the Community Connections website, Community Connections Brochure, and Community Connections newsletters.
